Reflection on Another's Post

"If a flawed novel entertains, it has done its job."

That is my biggest takeaway from the June 27th post over at The Business Rusch (Yes, I'm late, I've had a bad week of techno-failure that's kept me busy). Don't get me wrong, it's a good post, that line was the emotional face-slap for me. The whole post deals with the idea of perfection.

At the peak of a month of failure and headache (How fitting I should be suffering a migraine as I type this) involving technology and my writing, I sat down to read this post, and nearly cried when I got to that line (I resisted, to keep my coworkers from worrying about me). It carries a sense of relief for me, since I've increasingly felt like a failure at writing.

I've also thought I was lazy and making poor excuses for my writing because I agree with the above quote. One shelf of my bookcase is half-full of notebooks with stories I abondoned because the story had no deep, insightful message within. Most of them weren't meant to have any insightful message to begin with, and I felt they were worthless and unpublishable because no one would read them for that reason.

I'm destroying the message of a good post at this point, so I'll leave the link again and suggest that if you have not read it already to at least skim through. It's interesting, as are the comments.
